PURPOSE: To obtain a video tape recorder possible for eliminating a DC offset based on a frequency step of a sound carrier by making the phase delay amount of a demodulating circuit of the delay system different from each track to correct the delay amount.

CONSTITUTION: A non-inverting output and an inverted output of a limiter circuit 7l are applied to a delay circuit 11 and also to a multiplier 12, where the delayed limiter output and the limiter output not delayed are multiplied (AND operation). The multiplied output is smoothed at a low pass filter and becomes a demodulation output. When a switch 13 is opened, the demodulated output becomes a value in response to a delayed phase of the delay circuit 11, and when the switch 13 is closed, since the time constant of the delay circuit 11 is larger substantially, the delayed time is increased. Thus the DC offset based on the frequency step difference of the sound carrier appearing in the demodulated output of the low pass filter is corrected automatically.
