PURPOSE: To obtain a resistor having improved voltage dependent nonlinear properties, by dispersing particulates of a particular meal within a matrix consisting of a silica-alumina composite.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic particulates having an atomic weight of 45W210 and capable of providing univalent to trivalent ions in average are dispersed in a matrix consisting of a silica-alumina composite produced for example by sintering aluminosilicate (zeolite) powder. Metals of Ag, Cu, Au, Al, Ti, Zr, W, Mo, Ni, Ir, Co, Rh and Zn may be used most preferably for this purpose. High uniformity of distribution of such metallic particulates can be achieved by chemical adsorptivity between the matrix material and the metallic ions and, thus, a uniform voltage dependent nonlinear resistor can be obtained easily. By dispersing the metallic particulates within the silica-alumina matrix, a voltage dependent nonlinear resistor having improved voltage dependent non linear properties can be obtained.
