PURPOSE: To obtain wall paper containing foreign materials and having high surface strength and naive feeling, by scattering small pieces of decorative foreign materials composed of natural or synthetic materials on a vinyl chloride layer of a backing substrate for wall paper in an irregular pattern, melting the vinyl chloride layer with heat and embossing the laminate.
CONSTITUTION: A vinyl chloride compound is applied to a paper 1 used as a backing substrate for wall paper to form a vinyl chloride layer 2. Small pieces of decorative foreign materials 4 made of natural or synthetic materials [e.g. paper mulberry, Edgeworthia chrysantha (a raw material for Japanese paper) or mica] are scattered on the surface of the vinyl chloride layer 2 in irregular pattern and the vinyl chloride layer is melted and gelatinized by heating. The product is embossed, pressed and cooled to firmly integrate said foreign materials 4 to the vinyl chloride layer. A wide variety of wall papers can be produced by coating the vinyl chloride layer with a properly selected synthetic resin adhesive, thereby enabling the use of various kinds of foreign materials. Various kinds of wall papers having naive feeling can be produced in small lots by this process.
