PURPOSE: To obtain the subject remover having a good wall paper removing time, comprising a mixture containing a surfactant, a humectant and water and being substantially free from an enzyme.

CONSTITUTION: There is provided a remover composition containing such as sufficient amount of a mixture comprising at least one surfactant desirably selected among anionic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants, at least one humectant desirably selected among polyhydric alcohols such as glycerol and a major amount of water as to be effective for wallpaper removal and being free from oxygen. Wallpaper can be removed from a substrate by keeping the composition in contact with the substrate for a time sufficient to soften or dissolve the pressure-sensitive adhesive of the wallpaper.
