To carry a workpiece from some position to the next position without vacuum-sucking the workpiece, having a flat surface, or without using adhesive.

A workpiece on a supporting surface is lifted by a workpiece carrying device to be carried as far as the other supporting surface. A carrying head 1 is formed of a supporting member 6 having a downward surface facing the supporting surface, and a flexible sheet 7 having an adhering surface, fitted to the downward surface of the supporting member 6 to adhere to the work piece by the friction force and interface force to the workpiece. A netlike member 12, having an irregular surfaces contacting the back surface of a flexible sheet 7, is provided in a space 11 formed between the supporting member 6 and the flexible sheet 7. In removing the workpiece, adhering to the adhesion surface of the flexible sheet 7, the flexible sheet 7 is pulled to reduce the adherent area and interface force between the workpiece and the flexible sheet 7.
