WS-9659A substance has the following properties: molecular formula, C22H24N2O; molecular weight, 332; melting point, 161W162°C; appearance, dark blue crystal and the WS-9659B substance has the following properties: molecular formula, C22H23N2OCl; molecular weight, 366; melting point, 152W153°C; appearance, dark blue crystal.
USE: It has testosterone 5α-reductase inhibiting action and is useful as a preventive and remedy for prostatic hypertrophy. It has antibacterial activity and is useful also as an antibacterial substance. It can be administered by oral or parenteral administration and is preferably administered by intravenous injection, intramuscular injection or oral administration for person.
PREPARATION: The objective WS-9659 substance can be produced by culturing a bacterial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing WS-9659 substance selected from WS-9659A substance and WS-9659B substance in a medium and separating from the cultured liquid.
