Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance control unit and an inter-vehicle distance control method capable of considering not only a speed of a preceding vehicle (also equal to an own vehicle speed when traveling at a constant inter-vehicle distance) but also a type of the preceding vehicle and a travel road environment.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance control unit comprises: a preceding vehicle type determination unit for determining a type of a preceding vehicle; a vehicle speed measuring unit for measuring a speed of the preceding vehicle or an own vehicle; an inter-vehicle distance measuring unit for measuring a present inter-vehicle distance between the preceding vehicle and the own vehicle; and acceleration/deceleration control unit for controlling acceleration/deceleration for the own vehicle on the basis of the type of the preceding vehicle determined by the preceding vehicle type determination unit, the vehicle speed measured by the vehicle speed measuring unit, and the inter-vehicle distance measured by the inter-vehicle distance measuring unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
