Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium discrimination device capable of accurately discriminating a type of a recording medium, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: The recording medium discrimination device includes a first light source which irradiates a recording medium with light, a second light source which irradiates the recording medium with light from a direction different from the irradiation direction of the first light source, and imaging means which captures, as an image, light emitted from the first light source and the second source and reflected by the recording medium. The recording medium discrimination device further includes: selection means which, in a state where a range of a part of the recording medium is overlappedly irradiated by the first light source and the second light source, selects data except data relating to an image corresponding to at least a part of the range, from data relating to the image captured by the imaging means; and discrimination means which discriminates the type of the recording medium on the basis of the data relating to the image, which is selected by the selection means.
