Abstract:
In train control by moving block methods, vehicle onboard devices are required to have a mechanism for monitoring and reporting the formation length and train integrity to a trackside device, and further, high reliability and safety are required for the transmitted information. Accordingly, a train protection system comprises a first vehicle onboard device mounted in a first vehicle at a head of a train formation; a second vehicle onboard device mounted in a second vehicle at the rear of the train formation; and a transmission line configured to connect the first vehicle onboard device and the second onboard device; wherein at least the first vehicle onboard device includes a train integrity monitoring unit, and the train integrity monitoring unit is configured to monitor for establishment or loss of train integrity of the train formation based on communication contents or a communication state of the transmission line.
