Abstract:

An airbag device configured so that the protruding motion of the airbag toward the occupant after the airbag has been inflated to a certain size is gentle, and this is achieved using a structure which is as simple as possible. An airbag device which can be provided to an instrument panel, the airbag device being provided with an inflator which is able to generate gas and an airbag (30) which has a gas introduction opening (32h) for allowing the gas from the inflator to be introduced therein and which is inflated and expanded in a bag-like shape toward the inside of the vehicle compartment by the gas which is introduced from the inflator through the gas introduction opening (32h). The airbag (30) has at the upper portion thereof a spare length in the front-rear direction of the vehicle. While being caused to face rearward of the vehicle, the spare length portion is folded to the inside of the airbag (30), and by doing do, the airbag (30) is formed into a substantially flat shape and then into a storage shape.
