Abstract:
An antimicrobial material in which silver nanoparticles are immobilized on a solid substance is provided. The present invention is a solid antimicrobial material characterized by comprising: a microparticulate chitin derivative which has a degree of deacetylation of 0 to 35% and which has a roughened surface that bears nano-sized recesses and protrusions; and silver nanoparticles bonded to the chitin derivative. It is preferable that the nano-sized recesses and protrusions contain a fibrous structure formed by the separation of main chains of the chitin derivative from each other. Further, it is preferable that the roughened surface that bears nano-sized recesses and protrusions is a fracture surface formed when grinding the chitin derivative.
