Abstract:
The invention comprises the introduction of the needle to be destroyed, which is attached to a syringe, into a hole in the body of the apparatus designed for this purpose until its tip touches a spring-controlled electrode connected with the first pole of the current source. The needle is held at the syringe-supported end by two groups of fastening elements displaced in the direction of the needle axis. One of said fastening elements of each of the two groups is an electrode connected to either the first or second pole of the current source. Following the connection of the needle by first one, and then another of its segments to electrodes of opposing polarities, a current strong enough to achieve the destruction of said needle is passed through it. The use of two groups of fastening elements reduces the risk of deformation of the needle segment attached to the syringe, and ensures the effective hermetization of the volume of the syringe since the unmelted portion of the needle is sealed off. The fastening elements may resemble metal wafers controlled by springs pushing them towards one another and into contact with the needle along their long sides. A cleaning rod is disposed between the area accommodating the needle and the platform supporting the fastening elements. When the fastening elements approach the needle, the rod slides over their contact surfaces and cleans them. A second cleaning procedure is performed when the apparatus returns to its initial position following the destruction of the needle. The invention also includes several variations of the fastening elements, the mechanism for their displacement with respect to the needle, and their connection with the current source.
