Abstract:
A biodegradable sheet which has excellent biodegradability, is satisfactory in formability and mechanical strength, and is excellent in air permeability and water retentivity; a biodegradable molded article comprising the sheet; and an economical process for easily producing the article. The biodegradable sheet is produced by molding a raw material comprising at least 70 wt.% starchy substance while keeping the material at 120 to 180°C. Preferably, the raw material further contains a plastic, and the sheet is produced by kneading the starchy substance together with the plastic, extrusion-molding the mixture, cutting the extrudate to form raw pellets, drying the raw pellets, subsequently melting the pellets by heating with uniform mixing, and molding the melt into a sheet at a temperature of 120 to 180°C. A biodegradable container is obtained by superposing at least one biodegradable sheet of the kind described above, heating the sheet to soften it, and then subjecting the soften sheet to vacuum forming with heating or to pressure forming.
