Abstract:
This compression device comprises: a stack in which layered are a plurality of electrochemical cells in which an electrolyte membrane is sandwiched between an anode and a cathode; a pair of insulating plates provided on both ends of the stack in the layering direction; a pair of first end plates provided on the respective outsides of the pair of insulating plates; and a voltage applicator which applies a voltage across the anode and the cathode. When the voltage is applied by the voltage applicator, hydrogen contained in a hydrogen-containing gas supplied to the anode is caused to move to the cathode, and thus compressed hydrogen is generated. The compression device further comprises, on a first end plate, a first flow path where the hydrogen-containing gas supplied to the anode flows, and a second flow path where a heat medium flows, and also a heater for heating the heat medium.
