Abstract:
An electric bicycle to which brakes can be applied for braking while the handlebars are firmly gripped is provided. The electric bicycle comprises: an electric motor that generates auxiliary drive power; a coaster brake arranged inside a rear wheel (4) hub (16), which operates when pedals (8) are rotated in the opposite direction to the direction used for forward travel; and a control unit that causes regenerative braking or braking by the electric motor when the coaster brake is operated. As a result, the coaster brake can be operated for braking and electric motor braking can be operated at the same time, by rotating the pedals (8) with the feet, in the opposite direction to the forward travel direction, whilst firmly grasping the handlebars (5).
