Abstract:
Footwear (90) including a sole having a front and back for supporting a bottom of a foot. A heel cup (96) at the back of the sole receives and supports a heel of the foot. The heel cup (96) has a bottom (92) for further supporting the bottom of the foot and a side wall (94) extending up from the bottom (92). The side wall (94) has a generally concave rear section for receiving and supporting the back of the heel and opposite side sections extending forward from the rear section. The recess (98) in the rear section of the side wall (94) of the heel cup (96) is offset laterally from a longitudinal central vertical plane of the heel cup (96). The recess (98) is sized for accommodating the rearwardly protruding lateral posterior portion of the calcaneus of the foot.
