Abstract:
An image decoding method which can improve both image quality and encoding efficiency decodes an encoding stream which is generated by encoding a moving image, and which contains a plurality of processing units, and headers for the plurality of processing units. At least one processing unit among the plurality of processing units is layered so as to be separated into a plurality of smaller processing units; and the image decoding method analyses layer depth information stored in the header, and thus specifies the layer wherein a processing unit wherein a parameter necessary for decoding is stored (S101), and uses the parameter that is stored in the processing unit in the specified layer to decode said processing unit (S102).
