Abstract:
Disclosed is an image processing apparatus, wherein an effect in the improvement of a high-resolution feeling can be achieved, even when an input image signal does not contain so much high-frequency components. The image processing apparatus (10) is provided with a high-pass filter (1) that extracts middle-to-high frequency components from the input image signal; a nonlinear processing unit (2) that carries out a nonlinear processing onto the output signal of the high-pass filter (1); an adding unit (3); a threshold value determining unit (4) that detects, from the input image signal, the maximum and minimum pixel values within the target processing area of the high-pass filter (1), and determines the upper and lower threshold values for clipping, on the basis of those maximum and minimum pixel values; a clipping unit (5) that carries out the clipping using the upper and lower threshold values; a high-pass filter (6) that extracts high-frequency components from the output signal of the clipping unit (5); a nonlinear processing unit (7) that carries out a nonlinear processing onto the output signal of the high-pass filter (6); and an adding unit (8) that adds the output signal of the nonlinear processing unit (7) and the output signal of the clipping unit (5).
