Abstract:
The present invention pertains to an imaging element and an electronic device, whereby a better pixel signal can be obtained. The present invention comprises: a photoelectric conversion unit that converts received light into an electric charge; a holding unit that holds electric charge transferred from the photoelectric conversion unit; and a light-blocking unit that blocks light, between the photoelectric conversion unit and the holding unit. The photoelectric conversion unit, the holding unit, and the light-blocking unit are formed inside a semiconductor substrate having a prescribed thickness. The light-blocking unit in a transfer area in which the electric charge is transferred from the photoelectric conversion unit to the holding unit is formed as a non-penetrating light-blocking unit that does not penetrate the semiconductor substrate. The light-blocking unit outside the transfer area is formed as a penetrating light-blocking unit that penetrates the semiconductor substrate. This technology can be applied to an imaging element.
