Abstract:
The present invention stores an HDR image and HDR image metadata in an MP4 file, such that a playback device is able to perform optimal HDR image playback on the basis of the metadata. When generating an MP4 file storing HDR image data, HDR image metadata is recorded in the MP4 file. A trak box or traf box within the MP4 file is set as an HDR image metadata storage box, with the HDR image metadata being stored therein. The playback device acquires the HDR image metadata stored in the MP4 file, and in accordance with the acquired metadata and display function information of a display unit, determines whether or not to execute conversion processing of the HDR image read out from the MP4 file, and executes output image generation processing in accordance with the determination result.
