Provided is a laser light source in which a positional offset between the lens and the laser diode chip is unlikely to occur. A laser light source equipped with a laser diode chip having a light-emitting layer, a substrate for supporting the light-emitting layer and an emission end surface for emitting a laser beam produced by the light-emitting layer, also equipped with a submount having a main surface to which the laser diode chip is mounted and a pair of lens support parts positioned on both sides of the emission end surface of the laser diode chip, and further equipped with a lens bonded to the end surfaces of the pair of lens support parts, and a semiconductor laser package for housing the same, wherein: the laser diode chip is affixed to the submount in a state in which the light-emitting layer is nearer the submount than is the substrate; the emission end surface of the laser diode chip projects beyond the edge of the main surface; and the end surfaces of the pair of lens support parts project beyond the first end surface of the laser diode chip.
