Abstract:
Light is incident at an angle with respect to a VA (vertical alignment) liquid crystal panel whose surface is perpendicular to the optical axes of the liquid crystal molecules, thus artificially producing birefringence attributed only to the liquid crystal layer. This allows the thickness (cell gap) of the VA liquid crystal to be measured accurately.
