Abstract:
A method for producing an iron-based compacted body having a high density, which comprises pre-compacting an iron-based mixed powder prepared from an iron-based metal powder and a graphite powder and the like, pre-sintering the resulting pre-compacted body at a temperature of higher than 1000&ring C and not higher than 1300&ring C, to prepare an iron-based sintered preform containing 0.10 to 0.50 mass % of C, 0.3 mass % or less of O and 0.010 mass % or less of N and having a density of 7.2 Mg/m3 or more, and then subjecting the preform to a high velocity compaction with a compaction energy density of 1.8 MJ/m2 or more (1.4 MJ/m2 or more in terms of a pure iron system). The above method can be suitably used for producing an iron-based compacted body having a high density and thus an iron-based sintered body having a high density and a high strength with good productivity.
