Abstract:
The object is to produce a pulp without employing sodium sulfide or high temperature/high
pressure conditions and with higher yield compared to a Kraft method and to collect
lignin. A pulp is produced by hydrophilizing a wood chip with a dilute aqueous
solution of caustic soda at ambient temperature, partially oxidizing lignin
contained in the solution selectively in dilute nitric acid to modify lignin,
and subjecting the resulting solution to cooking with a dilute aqueous solution
of caustic soda at atmospheric pressure. Lignin is caused to aggregate in a black
liquor which is separated during the process for producing the pulp, and then
collected.
