Abstract:
In order to make it possible to accurately specify the EGR rate from the output value of an in-cylinder pressure sensor, disclosed is a method for specifying the EGR rate in an internal combustion engine, wherein first the output value of an in-cylinder pressure sensor during an intake stroke is acquired, and comparison data related to the in-cylinder pressure during the intake stroke is calculated from the acquired sensor output value. The output value of the in-cylinder pressure sensor during an exhaust stroke in the same cycle is also acquired, and comparison data related to the in-cylinder pressure during the exhaust stroke is calculated from the acquired sensor output value. The two comparison data are compared and the EGR rate of an air-fuel mixture used for combustion is specified from the difference between the values thereof.
