Abstract:

A divalent-europium-activated oxynitride green light-emitting phosphor consisting of a β-SiAlON which is substantially represented by general formula (A): EuaSibAlcOdNe [wherein a, b, c, d and e are numbers satisfying the relationships: 0.005≤a≤0.4, b+c=12, and d+e=16] and has a mean particle size (d1) of 9 to 16μm (as determined by an air permeability method) and a medium diameter (50%D) of 12.5 to 35μm in the particle size distribution, with d1 and 50%D satisfying the relationship: 50%D/d1=1.4 to 2.2, and which exhibits an absorbance of 8.0% or less at 600nm; and a light-emitting device, a light source device for BL, and a liquid crystal display device, which are made using the same. The β-SiAlON has controlled dispersibility and therefore exhibits enhanced transparency. Therefore, use of the β-SiAlON makes it possible to provide both a light-emitting device that exhibits high efficiency and stable characteristics and a liquid-crystal display device using the same.
