Abstract:
It is intended to clarify the onset mechanism of a disease caused by angiogenesis
by analyzing the action of an antiangiogenetic factor in the heart valve, etc.
More specifically, it is intended to provide a remedy for an angiogenesis-related
disease such as heart valve disease and a method of efficiently screening this
remedy. It is found out that chondromodulin-I is remarkably expressed in the
heart valve and plays an important role in maintaining the normal functions of
the valve by preventing angiogenesis, thickening and calcification which bring
about heart valve disease. It is expected that the chondromodulin-I protein
or a substance capable of activating the expression or function of this protein
would exert a therapeutic effect on an angiogenesis-related disease.
