PURPOSE: To adsorb bilirubin contained in serum by constituting an adsorbent from a porous copolymer consisting of divinylbenzene and glycidyl methacrylate.
CONSTITUTION: In the particles of a porous copolymer having composition of 35W95wt.% divinylbenzene (DVB) and 5W65wt.% glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), the prescribed amount of a precipitant such as 4-methyl-2-pentanol is added to the mixture of the monomers of DVB and GMA and the obtained mixture is subjected to suspension polymerization in water and the particles of the produced copolymer are washed with water and washed with methanol and extracted with acetone to purify them. The porous structure of the particle of this copolymer consists of 0.7W2.1cc/g narrow pore volume specific surface area not less than 150m2/g. Bilirubin contained in serum liquid can be effectively adsorbed by bringing the porous particles obtained by such a way into contact with a patient of hyperbilirubinemia.
