To provide an anomaly detector for optical fiber, less liable to break optical fiber and reliably detecting anomaly such as fracture of the optical fiber, and to provide a laser transmitter equipped therewith.
A laser guide 1 is equipped with the optical fiber 3 for laser light transmission and a circuit wire 15 in a protective tube 2. An outer coating layer of the optical fiber 3 is given conductivity since carbon grains are mixed therein. The circuit wire 15 and the coating layer together form a closed-loop anomaly detection circuit 17, and the circuit 17 is connected to a detector 18. When the optical fiber 3 is fractured or heated, the coating layer fuses or heats up to a high temperature, opening the circuit 17 to unusually increase its resistance value, or increasing the resistance value due to the high temperature. When a change in resistance value exceeds a prescribed quantity, the detector 18 detects this to determine the optical fiber 3 to be anomalous and sends a signal to a laser oscillator to stop its oscillation.
