Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the antibody-productivity and prolong the effective time by including an antigen in chitin to allow the antigen and the chitin to be present at the same time in a living body.
CONSTITUTION: The subject composition consists a substance produced by incorporating an antigen into chitin and is useful for the production of an antibody to be used as a component of vaccine, for clinical examination, for the decomposition of biocomponent, etc. The composition is absolutely free from toxicity, has high antibody-production capability and biocompatibility and exhibits high safety even in the case of using as a biomaterial. The antibody is slowly released by inserting the antibody-producing composition into a living body to improve the antibody-producing performance and to keep excellent antibody- producing performance over a long period. The chitin to be used in the above composition is e.g. N-acetyl-D-glucosamine polymer, its deacetylated product, chitosan, salt of chitin and an acid, a chitin derivative produced by esterifying, etherifying or carboxymethylating the OH group or CH2OH group of glucosamine residue, etc.
