The base material for a protective film for polarizing plate is a material to be used by sticking onto the surface of a polarizing plate for liquid crystal display plate and consists of a film having a coating layer on one surface of a biaxially oriented polyester film. The base material features that: the surface resistance of the coating layer is ≤1×1011 Ω; the adhesion strength (P2) by an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive on the surface of the coating layer is ≤3,000 mN/cm; the difference (P1-P2) between the adhesion strength (P1) by a rubber pressure-sensitive adhesive and the adhesion strength (P2) by an acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive on the surface of the coating layer is ≥100 mN/cm; and the film haze is ≤2%.
