Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify a novel family of proteins useful for a compositions having a tendon/ligament-like tissue-inducing activity and useful for the induction of tendon/ligament-like tissue formation and repair.
SOLUTION: Novel bone morphogenetic proteins, BMP-12 and BMP-13, have been cloned. Disclosed are compositions comprising these proteins each having a tendon/ligament-like tissue-inducing activity. The compositions are useful for treatment of tendinitis or deficiency of other tendon or ligament and for repair of related tissue.
