PURPOSE: To mass-produce easily composite magnetic heads having high accuracy, by forming plural specific recessed grooves to a counter surface of a center core block to a recording medium.
CONSTITUTION: The recessed grooves 11 are formed with a sloping cross to the ridge line of the gap forming surface by an angle θ (about 10W45°) and a pitch P to a counter surface of a center core block 6 (including ferrite plates 4 and 5, a nonmagnetic thin plate 3). Thus many pieces of groove parts 20 are formed with depth D larger than the gap depth GD, and an area having the width equal to the track width TW1 in the direction of gap forming surface is left between parts 20. Then C core blocks 7 and 8 are brought into contact with the gap forming surface of the block 6 via a nonmagnetic thin film, and these blocks and the gap forming surface are joined together by filling glass, etc. into the part 20. This unified block is cut at a cutting line shown by the arrow mark. Thus it is possible to produce a composite magnetic head containing a read/write head having a track of width TW1 and an erasion head having a track of width TW3.
