To improve follow-up accuracy of actual torque with respect to target torque in ignition timing control with the usage of a statistical model regarding a control device of an internal combustion engine.
In this control device, basic ignition timing for achieving the target torque r(k) is calculated from a torque model 6. Further, the actual torque y(k) output from the internal combustion engine 2 is obtained by a torque sensor 4, and a follow-up error e(k) between the target torque r(k) and the actual torque y(k) is calculated. The basic ignition timing is corrected by an ignition timing correction amount v(k) obtained by inputting the follow-up error e(k) to H error FB controller 8 to be used as final ignition timing u(k). The H error FB controller 8 is designed so that H norm of a transfer function from disturbance caused by a modeling error of the target torque and the torque model 6 to the follow-up error is the minimum.
