To provide a coordinate detecting device, accurately detecting the coordinates of a specified point by directly touching a display screen with a pen without overlaying a coordinate detecting member such as a transparent touch panel on the display screen.
When the display screen of a display device (PC)10 is touched and designated by the penpoint P of a pen type reader 20 (B2, B3), this coordinate detecting device divides the display screen into cells of 8×8 dots each according to a pen contact. The coordinate information (coded image) of different R, G, B values preset and colored in the respective cells is displayed (A3), and the coordinate information around the specified position of the penpoint P is photographed by a camera part of the pen type reader 20 (B6). Consequently, the display color of the concerned cell is extracted from a photographing image G including a cell where the penpoint P is placed, and after the R, G, B values are analyzed to calculate the cell position P(Cx, Cy) where the penpoint P is placed, the coordinates of the penpoint P in the cell P (Cx, Cy) are interpolatively calculated to calculate the specified coordinate position P(X, Y) of the penpoint P on the display screen (D).
