To provide an inexpensive cutting device with good cutting efficiency capable of reducing generation of folding-backs or burrs of a material to be cut and preventing chipping of a blade of a band saw.
The cutting device has a base 1 for holding the material 11 to be cut and a cutting machine (2, 4-8) for holding the band saw 6 driven by a motor and swingably supported by the base 1. The cutting machine is movable to allow the band saw 6 to be approachable to/separable from the base 1, and a speed adjusting means (15) for adjusting a speed at which the band saw 6 approaches the base 1 while the band saw 6 approaches the base 1. A stopper for determining the lower limit position of the band saw 6 is arranged at the cutting device, and the speed adjusting means (15) is mounted at a part on which the stopper abuts. Accordingly, cutting is carried out with initially set cutting load (cutting speed) nearly till completion of cutting. The cutting load of the band saw 6 is reduced (slow down cutting) nearly at the completion of cutting of the material 11 to be cut and the generation of the folding-backs or the burrs is reduced.
