To provide a discharge lamp wherein the good sealing is provided using a blocking body composed mainly of a gradient functional material, and the electric connection of an electrode to a conductive material-rich region and the mechanical support of the electrode by the blocking body are so secured that the electrode is hardly to loose.
The main part of the discharge lamp is composed of a nonconductive material. The discharge bulb is integrally constituted of a bulb 1 having opening portions 1, and the blocking bodies 2 composed mainly of the gradient functional material which includes conductive material-rich regions, gradient material regions continuing from the conductive material-rich regions and nonconductive material-rich regions continuing from the other end of the gradient material regions, wherein the opening portions 1 of the bulb 1 are closed at the nonconductive material-rich region. The blocking body 2 has inserting bores 2d reaching the conductive material-rich region from ends thereof. Electrodes 3, the base end of which are inserted in the inserting bore 2d, are disposed in the bulb 1. At the depths of the inserting bores 2d, the electrodes 3 are electrically connected to the conductive material-rich region and mechanically supported by melt-solidified metal 4 disposed in the blocking body 2.
