PURPOSE: To reduce a ventilating resistance inside a moving layer for thereby facilitating the burning and melting of unmelted ash, by positively draining a melt slag from the moving layer and preventing their induced flow.
CONSTITUTION: An incineration slag N containing unburned carbons from industrial waste materials such as an urban refuse burnt is stacked upon a grate 22 inside a melting furnace 11. The slag thus stacked falls towards an inclined, or drainage direction as a moving layer 10, while being pushed by a pusher 14. On the other hand, the moving layer 10 is progressively heated up by the exothermic body 28 of heating means 27 provided at the lower portion of grate, while simultaneously burning carbons, its unburned component, by a burning air supplied thereat from a burning air blow-off port 19. An incineration ash is melted by a burning heat produced during this operation. A melt slag thus produced falls along the grate and is discharged immediately in the direction of gravity, and thereby separating the slag from the moving layer 10. Thus, the slag can be transferred over the grate merely with an unmelted ash being separated, and therefore the contact of unmelted ash with the burning air can be improved. The improvement in burning and melting operation is therefore accomplished.
