Abstract:
PURPOSE: To make communication with various modem types possible by logically deciding a modem type by using a dynamic modem selecting algorithm and selecting an appropriate command used in the modem.
CONSTITUTION: A random access unit(RAU) 1 has four ports 1-4 and a communication means 20 and a transmission line 26 are respectively connected to a computer 24 through modems 12 and 22 and a video terminal 30 through modems 14 and 28. In addition, a comparing means, a storing means, and a flag means are incorporated in the RAU 10 and the computer 24 executes a comparing function, a storing function, an item flag display function, etc. The storing means holds the list of all used modem types and a related command set used with respect to each type. Therefore, each modem type is continuously checked for an expected response until a connected modem type is accurately recognized. Then, a modem type is set to the corresponding state.
