To provide an electromagnetic casting device capable of producing polycrystal silicon, which is free of contamination due to metal impurities and preferable as a substrate material for a solar cell, by preventing erosion and the like of the outer frame in a heat insulation device.
The electromagnetic casting device for silicon includes: a non-bottom cooling mold; a heating induction coil; and the heat insulation device which is disposed below the mold and gradually cools silicon. In the electromagnetic casting device lowering the silicon melted by electromagnetic induction heating by the heating induction coil and solidifying the silicon, a nonconductive member is used as a component of the outer frame 16 of the heat insulation device 13. The nonconductive member can be used only for a specific surface, wherein serious erosion occurs particularly, of the outer frame or only for an upper portion of the entire surface of the outer frame. As the nonconductive member, alumina or silicon carbide is desirable.
