PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic switch for a starter capable of securing a brazing strength of a contact member while suppressing adherence of a solder material onto a lateral face of the contact member, and of utilizing wear allowance of the contact member at the maximum.SOLUTION: In an electromagnetic switch for a starter, a groove part 8d for storing a solder material is formed on a brazed surface 8a at a battery side fixed contact part 8, and the groove part 8d is provided while striding over an abutting part 8b of a contact member 15 and a non-abutting part 8c. Thereby, because a brazing state with the solder material stored in the groove part 8d can be visually inspected when the contact member 15 is brazed to the battery side fixed contact part 8, a strength required for the brazing can be secured without adhering the solder material onto a lateral face 15a of the contact member 15, and wear allowance of the contact member 15 can be utilized at the maximum.
