A multilayer chip inductor has a rectangular parallelepiped contour, and an external electrode having an L-shaped section is provided, respectively, on both end faces facing each other to cover a part of adjoining end faces and a part of the bottom face 1c with a corner C being held therebetween. On the end face, a pair of gaps g of equal width are provided at positions where an end face 2b of a square external electrode and the end face 2b of an external electrode in the direction of the ridge line of the corner C (X direction) are sandwiched. The ratio d/W of the width W of the end face in the direction of the ridge line of the corner C and the width d of the gap g satisfy a relation 0<d/W≤0.2.
