Title:
FILTER PRESS TYPE ELECTROLYTIC CELL FOR RECOVERING HYDROGEN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6350490
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To recover gaseous H2 with high current efficiency without leaking by superimposing many unit electrolytic cells each provided with an ion exchange resin membrane and electrodes each consisting of a Cu sheet, a carbon sheet and carbon fibers and placed on both sides of the membrane to form a filter press type electrolytic cell and by electrolyzing an acidic electrolytic soln. contg. an oxidizable and reducible substance. CONSTITUTION:Carbon fibers 5 in the form of cloth, felt or the like and carbon sheets 4 each having a Cu sheet 3 stuck to the outside are placed on both sides of an ion exchange membrane 6 and pressing plates 1 are attached to the Cu sheets 3 with end plates 2 in-between to form a filter press type electrolytic cell for generating and recovering gaseous hydrogen by the electrolysis of a highly concd. acid soln. contg. an oxidizable and reducible substance such as iron. The edges of the membrane 6 are held between resin spacers 8 with rubber spacers 9 in-between. Such an acid soln. is fed to the electrolytic cell from the lower feed hole 11, electric current is supplied to electrodes each consisting of the Cu sheet 3, the carbon sheet 4 and the carbon fibers 5 on both sides of the membrane 6 to electrolyze the acid soln., and gaseous hydrogen generated by the electrolysis is recovered from the recovery hole 14 is a high yield without leaking.
