Title:
FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM OF IN-CYLINDER DIRECT INJECTION TYPE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3471229
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly increase fuel injection pressure when a high-pressure fuel pump of an in-cylinder direct injection type internal combustion engine cannot yet generate sufficiently high fuel pressure immediately after the engine has been started.
SOLUTION: During startup of an engine, discharge pressure of a low-pressure fuel pump 26 is directly supplied into a large-diameter cylinder 22c of a pressure intensifying piston mechanism 22. A large-diameter piston 22a receives the pressure and pressurizes fuel within a small-diameter cylinder 22d via a small- diameter piston 22b integrally formed therewith. Thus, the fuel pressure within a fuel delivery piping 29 to be supplied to a fuel injector 20 is quickly increased. Accordingly, excellent fuel spray can be provided by high fuel pressure from immediately after the startup. When the number of revolutions of a high-pressure fuel pump 24 is increased and thus the fuel pressure within the large-diameter cylinder 22c is increased, a main outlet port 22f is opened and high-pressure fuel is directly supplied into the fuel delivery piping 29. Thus, the engine is brought into a normal operating condition.
