To provide a gear shifting device having improved operability for preventing the setting of a shift drum into a neutral position during travel and allowing the setting of the shift drum into the neutral position during stop.
The gear shifting device includes an upstream side latch mechanism 70 for latching and holding an upstream side turning member 51 of a lost motion mechanism with respect to each shift stage, a downstream side latch mechanism 80 for latching a downstream side turning member 61 with respect to each shift stage to restrict the turn of the shift drum 21 integrated with the downstream side turning member 61, the downstream side latch mechanism 80 canceling the latch of the downstream side turning member 61 in linkage with the operation of the upstream side latch mechanism 70 to latch and hold the upstream side turning member 51, detent mechanisms 56, 66, and a latching function change-over mechanism for changing over the latching function of at least the downstream side latch mechanism 80 out of the upstream side latch mechanism 70 and the downstream side latch mechanism 80 into a disabling or enabling condition.
