NEW MATERIAL:One of the two geometrical isomers of a triazole compound of formula I (X is halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, phenoxy, phenyl, cyano or nitro; n is 0W5; R is alkyl, cyclopropyl, or alkyl substituted with alkylsulfenyl), wherein the NMR spectrum (in deuterochloroform) of olefinic proton is at the higher magnetic field side in the selected isomer than in the other isomer.
EXAMPLE: The E-isomer of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)- 1-penten-3-one.
USE: Agricultural and horticultural fungicide and general-purpose fungicide. It is also effective to kill to weeds and regulate the growth of plant.
PROCESS: The objective compound is prepared by isomerizing one of the two isomers of a triazole compound with photoirradiation, wherein the NMR spectrum of olefinic proton is at the lower magnetic field in the isomer than in the other isomer.
