PURPOSE: To facilitate beating in production of glassine paper, improve transparency of glassine paper, reduce consumption of electric power and improve the quality of glassine paper.

CONSTITUTION: A softwood bleached kraft pulp, a hardwood bleached kraft pulp and a softwood bleached sulfite pulp are respectively prepared by adding a hydrolase such as hemicellulase (e.g. endo-1,4-β-D-xylanase) or cellulase (e.g. β-D-glucosidase) in an amount of 0.03 to 0.6wt.% based on the absolute dry pulp and subsequently applying beating treatment using a general beater. The glassine paper is produced by using a single pulp selected from among the above-mentioned pulps or a mixture pulp composed of two or three kinds of these pulps. Addition of the hydrolase enables production of glassine paper remarkably improved in transparency without much effort for selection of pulp.
