PURPOSE: To provide the hair shampoo composition preventing the flaking of hair when the hair is brushed, imparting an excellent conditioning property to the hair, and giving a good touch.

CONSTITUTION: This hair shampoo composition is characterized by compounding 3-methyl-1,3-butanediol in an amount of 0.1-20wt.%, preferably 1-10wt.%, based on the whole weight of the composition and a nitrogen-containing water-soluble substance such as polydimethylmethylenepiperidium chloride in an amount of 0.01-5wt.%, preferably 0.1-1wt.%. The composition is further being compounded with a surfactant such as a sulfosuccinic acid type surfactant of formula I or formula II (M1, M2 are H alkali metal, etc.; B is oxyethylene, oxypropylene; (x)is 0-15; R1 is aliphatic primary or secondary alcohol residue) or an imidazoline type surfactant of formula III or formula IV (R2, R4 are alkyl, alkenyl; R3, R5, R6 are CH2COOM3, CH2CH2COOM3; R6 is further H; M3 is M1, M2) in an amount of 0.1-30wt.%, preferably 1-20wt.%.
