To improve the productivity by providing a pressing face to hold a thin piece together with a tip of a suction part by the movement of a rotational mechanism, and fitting the pressing face to a box to allow handling of a filter piece essential for the automatic assembly of e.g. an optical waveguide device by an automatic machine.
A suction part 6 is rotated by a rotational mechanism 8 to set a suction surface 6a downward as illustrated in Fig. (a), a box 10 is moved above a measure 5a of a filter tray 5, and the box 10 is lowered until the suction surface 6a is brought into contact with a filter piece 1. A vacuum piping 7 is operated as indicated in Fig. (b) to suck the filter piece 1, and the box 10 is elevated to allow the filter piece 1 to be sucked and lifted. The suction part 6 is rotated using the rotational mechanism 8 as indicated in Fig. (c), the filter piece 1 is pressed against the pressing face 9 so as to be sandwiched. In this condition, the box 10 is moved above a filter groove 4 of an optical waveguide tip 2, and the box 10 is lowered to allow the filter piece 1 to be inserted in the filter groove 4.
