To provide a hydrogen gas generating apparatus which is suited for supplying hydrogen gas to a fuel cell to be installed in small equipment such as in particular portable equipment, and in which miniaturization of the whole apparatus and maintainability are taken into consideration.
The hydrogen gas generating apparatus 2 for generating hydrogen gas for supplying to a fuel cell is provided with a first housing case 10 which has a shape extending in a lengthwise direction and in which pure iron tablets 12 are housed, an introduction pipe 4 for introducing water or steam into the first housing case 10, a discharge pipe 5 for discharging hydrogen gas generated by the reaction between water or steam introduced into the housing case 10 and pure iron tablets 12 housed therein, a second housing case 11 which is arranged adjacent to the first housing case 10 and has a shape extending in the same lengthwise direction as the first housing case 10 and in which pure iron tablets 13 are housed, and an opening 11a for introducing air that is reacted with the pure iron tablets 13 housed in the second housing case 11, wherein it is constructed so that the heat generated by the reaction between air and pure iron in the second housing case 11 can be transferred to the first housing case 10.
